Venice will soon start charging day-trippers to visit the popular tourist location during peak periods, as it tries to find ways to deal with over tourism, which strains the city’s infrastructure from visitors clogging up the city’s narrow streets and canals. Rachel Dodds, tourism expert from Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), says such fees are something that could be adopted in other cities across Europe struggling with similar concerns.
