The U.S. Supreme Court has barred states from disqualifying candidates for federal office in a ruling handed down on Monday, overturning a decision by Colorado’s top court that would have excluded U.S. President Donald Trump from the ballot due to his actions leading up to the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol building. Trump applauded the ruling on Monday, saying “it will go along way toward bringing our country together” and suggested his political opponents had sought to remove him from the presidential race.
