Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Friday in reaction to a Global News investigation that uncovered widespread allegations that some for-profit companies which operate group homes in Ontario’s child welfare system may be targeting Indigenous kids to make more money. “We have known for many years that child and family services across the country have not been giving what is necessary to Indigenous kids.” He added, “We have already transferred control of child and family services back to Indigenous communities… but there is more to do.”
