Rate of Canadians accused of a crime held in pre-trial detention rising: CCLA bail system report

The co-author of a new report by the Canadian Civil Liberties Association said little has changed from recommendations made by a 2014 report. “The rate at which we use pre-trial detention has more than doubled in the last forty years. And the number of people heal in pre-trial detention has quadrupled in that time. Across Canada, 51 per cent of cases conclude that all charges against the individual being withdrawn,” Nicole Myers, a co-author of the report, said.
