During Thursday’s question period in the House of Commons, NDP MP Daniel Blaikie asked what Liberals are doing to end workplace “discrimination against women,” after voicing concerns that new parents who were laid off during or after parental leave are denied access to regular employment insurance (EI) benefits, disproportionately impacting women. Employment Minister Randy Boissonnault replied that the EI system is undergoing modernization and the matter is currently before courts.
