Speaking in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said that Saleh Arouri, a senior Hamas member killed in a Tuesday strike in Lebanon, was “a brutal terrorist” who was “centrally responsible” for the Oct. 7 attacks in Israel. “We continue to believe it is not in Hezbollah’s interest — just as it is not in Israel’s interests — to escalate this conflict in any way,” Miller said.
