Northumberland – Peterborough South will remain Conservative blue as Philip Lawrence was re-elected on Monday night.
Through the 300 polls reported, Lawrence received 44.5 per cent of the vote, well ahead of Liberal candidate Alison Lester who received 33.5 per cent.
The NDP’s Kim McArthur-Jackson was third with 14.1 per cent of the votes followed by Nathan Lang of the People’s Party of Canada (5.5 per cent) and The Green Party’s Christina Wilson (2.5 per cent).
Total vote count: 69,732 (3,279 were mail-in ballots):
- Conservative: Philip Lawrence: 31,014 votes
- Liberal: Alison Lester: 23,334 votes
- NDP: Kim McArthur-Jackson: 9,809 votes
- People’s Party of Canada: Nathan Lang, 3,801 votes
- Green Party: Christina Wilson, 1,774 votes
In 2019 Lawrence defeated Liberal incumbent Kim Rudd after receiving 39.7 per cent of the votes versus Rudd’s 36.2 per cent after 68,961 votes were cast among 96,841 eligible voters.
The riding encompasses Northumberland County, parts of Peterborough County comprised of the townships of Asphodel-Norwood and Otonabee-South Monaghan, and parts of Durham comprised of part of Clarington. It borders Lake Ontario.
In 2015, Liberal Kim Rudd became the first MP to represent the newly formed riding (previously known as Northumberland-Quinte West , which was created by redistribution in 2021.
Just over 22 per cent of the population works in sales and service occupations, according to the 2016 census.
