Officers were called to a minor collision just north of Speedvale Avenue at around 12:30 p.m.

A load of steel beams on the flatbed broke loose and smashed into the back of the truck’s cab.

There was also debris scattered all over the road, which was closed for several hours for the cleanup.

Police said officers on scene detected the odour of alcohol on the truck driver and he allegedly failed a sample of his breath.

The 50-year-old Guelph man was arrested and will make a court appearance in March.
