Ottawa fire said that a two-alarm blaze has heavily damaged a multi-unit home in Centretown on Wednesday afternoon.
Fire dispatch says they received multiple 911 calls at around 2:50 p.m., reporting a fire on an upper floor of the building at 129 Catherine St.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions and began attacking the blaze. A second alarm was called at around 4 p.m.
So far, no injuries have been reported and residents are being sheltered by OC Transpo buses. Reports say that 11 people have been displaced as a result of the fire.
An Ottawa fire investigator has been dispatched to the scene to figure out the cause of the fire. An estimate of the damage has not yet been determined.
Ottawa fire crews are asking drivers to remain off the roads and a safe distance from the fire while they fight the blaze. Commuters in the area report that traffic has been heavily affected.
