$81M upgrade to Commercial-Broadway SkyTrain station complete

Transit users will get to experience a new Commercial-Broadway SkyTrain station this weekend.

The largest SkyTrain station upgrade in history is complete and opens on Feb. 2.

Transit users will find a new platform for westbound Expo Line trains, a new walkway above Broadway and a connecting platform to Millennium Line, as well as an expanded entrance and concourse area for the Broadway stationhouse.

TransLink CEO Kevin Desmond said the station is one of the most congested spots in the entire transit system.

“These upgrades will help alleviate that pressure and improve their experience,” he said. “The new pedestrian overpass and the new train platform will make it much easier for our customers to transfer between Millennium and Expo line trains, and the 99 B-Line.”

Total costs are approximately $81 million. The federal government provided $9.4 million through the Building Canada Fund, the provincial government contributed $18.8 million, and the remaining $52.8 million was provided by TransLink.
