One death, multiple injuries, ambulance and SUV collide on Manitoba highway

RCMP said one person has been killed in a two-vehicle crash involving an ambulance in western Manitoba, just after 5 a.m. Thursday morning.

Police said in an email that three other people are in hospital after the ambulance collided with a sport-utility vehicle overnight on Highway 16 between Neepawa and Gladstone.

RCMP said an SUV that was travelling west collided with the eastbound ambulance.

The driver of the SUV, a 36- year-old woman from Winnipeg, was pronounced deceased on scene.

The 37-year-old ambulance driver, a 37-year-old woman passenger, and a patient were sent to hospital.

Mounties said visibility and road conditions were poor in the area.

A stretch of Highway 16 in the vicinity of the crash was closed for an investigation.

Motorists were being asked to stay on the Trans-Canada Highway.
