If you looked up to the skies over the Waterloo region Monday afternoon, you may have caught an unusual sight.
A Boeing B-29 Superfortress landed at Waterloo International Airport on Monday, beginning a three-day stop there.
FIFI, as is it is named, is billed as the premier bomber of World War II, and the World’s Most Famous Flying B-29.
The plane initially took to the skies in 1942 and began active service with the U.S. military in 1944. It continued to be used throughout the 1950s, including during the Korean War.
FIFI has been brought to Kitchener by the Waterloo Warbirds and the Waterloo International Airport as part of CAF AirPower History Tour 2018.
The B-29 Superfortress began its tour in North Bay and will also make stops in London, Windsor and Hamilton before continuing tour south of the border.
Tours of the aircraft are available Monday afternoon, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, for $15. Children will be admitted for $6.
