Nestled in the scenic rolling hills and valleys of southeast Kelowna, the Okanagan Lavender and Herb Farm is a family owned operation.
Hand-made and locally grown, the farm harvests small batches of lavender and herbs to create more than 60 products sold at the gift shop.
The farm boasts a xeriscape garden with plants that require very little water. In terms of pesticides, the operation is also spray-free.
There is a lot to learn and experience at this working farm. Several workshops are offered throughout the year to educate and entertain visitors.
Aromatherapy basics, clean living, fragrance and flavor, and herbal wreath-making are just some of the classes available. There are also kids art lessons as well as calligraphy and painting classes for adults.
For those interested in exploring, the farm offers self-guided and guided tours of the operation from May to October.
Family activities are available during the tours, including a scavenger hunt, a maze and a wishing tree, which showcases dreams and wishes that visitors have penned and posted during their visits.
Manager Lillian Sokil says lavender, which generally blooms once per year, is a very versatile flowering plant.
“Some of the dried lavender goes in our sachets, some will go into our teas and culinary products and some will go into our bath products,” Sokil said. “We use our dried lavender buds to make our wonderful lavender lemonade that we offer to our visitors.
