Brantford Power warning the public of phone scam

Brantford Power is warning the public to be aware of a telephone scam targeting customers in the area.

Brantford Power says it’s received reports that a caller claiming to work for the utility has contacted customers to request payments or advise them that their hydro meter needs to be changed.

The company says customers should not provide any personal information if they receive a suspicious call. Brantford Power says it does not disconnect customers without prior notice and will not call to ask for your account number.

Customers can call Brantford Power at 519-751-3522 during business hours to determine if any communication they’ve received is legitimate.

The company says any suspicious calls can be reported to the Brantford Police Department at 519-756-0113 and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or Antifraudcentre.ca.
