Barrie woman dies in two-vehicle collision in the City of Kawartha Lakes

A Barrie woman was killed and two other people were seriously injured following a two-vehicle collision in the City of Kawartha Lakes on Sunday afternoon.

OPP said around 3:35 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a collision between a southbound SUV and a northbound cube truck along Highway 35 just south of Cameron.

The SUV was carrying five people.

City of Kawartha Lakes OPP stated Tuesday morning that a 71-year-old woman from Barrie, a passenger in the SUV, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other four occupants and the driver of the cube truck were transported to hospital, OPP said.

“A five-year old boy from Oakville and an occupant of the SUV were subsequently airlifted to a Toronto-area hospital with serious injuries,” said Const. Jackie Hildenbrand.

Highway 35 was closed for five hours as the OPP’s Technical Collision Investigations Unit was on scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The name of the victim has not been released.
