Someone is stealing Vernon Christmas decorations

A rash of thefts of Christmas light projectors and decorations in Vernon, has police advising residents that a “Grinch” may be at work in the city.

Whether or not the crimes have truly been motivated by a dislike of seasonal cheer is unclear, but the RCMP said there have been three complaints that decorations have been stolen from Vernon homes.

“The suspected thief is entering the yards of local homes, unplugging light projectors and making off with the lights in the middle of the night,” said Cst. Kelly Brett in a media release.

“Video surveillance has been obtained from some of the reported thefts, however the video is of poor quality and hard to make out a suspect…However, it is only a matter of time before the suspect is seen or recognized from home surveillance systems.”

Police said that expensive decorations should be secured or taken indoors at night. The RCMP is also encouraging people to report suspicious activity and pass on any tips about the Christmas decoration thefts to police.
