RCMP have issued a public warning about a high-risk offender who police believe poses a significant risk to children under the age of 12.
Robert Ventress, 47, was released on Wednesday after serving an 18-month sentence for four counts of breach of recognizance.
Ventress was convicted in 2005 of sexual assault, possession of child pornography and possession of child pornography for the purpose of publication. In 2010, he was convicted of a parole violation.
Police say he is described as six feet tall, 169 pounds, with green eyes and brown hair.
Ventress will be living in the Mundare, Alta. area.
“The RCMP believes that there is a risk of significant harm to the health and safety of the public, and in particular, children under the age of 12 years accessed through relationships with adults,” read a media release issued Wednesday afternoon.
The RCMP released information about Ventress in the interest of public safety. People are asked not to embark on any form of vigilante action.
Mundare is located about 80 kilometres east of Edmonton.
