A Kelowna prolific offender is heading back to prison.
Donald Brodie, 30, was sentenced Tuesday to nine years in prison for hitting a newspaper carrier while trying to flee police.
The incident happened in Rutland nearly four years ago when Brodie was being chased by RCMP.
While attempting to go around a police cruiser, Brodie struck Steve Kania who was delivering newspapers.
The 41 year-old Kelowna man suffered serious head injuries and now lives in a long-term care facility.
Initially, Brodie’s friend, Nathan Fahl who was in the vehicle at the time of the chase, was alleged to have been the driver. However, Brodie insisted he was the driver. After being charged, Brodie attempted to recant his statement.
Brodie has a lengthy criminal record including more than 40 convictions.
He was also handed a 10 year driving ban.
