A record-breaking amount of snow has fallen on northern B.C overnight, including Fort St. John and Dawson Creek.
Thousands of people are without power due to the snow storm and while the schools in Peace River North are open today, School District 60 has cancelled all school buses.
At the Fort St. John Airport, 55 centimetres of snow has fallen since 5 p.m. Tuesday, shattering the daily snowfall records for this time of year.
At the 73 Mile Highway Station, 42 centimetres has fallen, Chetwynd has received 15 centimetres and at the Braden Road Highway Station, 22 centimetres has fallen.
Global BC meteorologist Mark Madryga says the extremely moist frontal system that hammered the north coast of B.C. with heavy rainfall for the past several days moved into the Peace River region late Tuesday afternoon.
The heavy snow fell in all areas of northeastern B.C., including Chetwynd, Dawson Creek Fort St. John and along the Alaska Highway to Fort Nelson.
