Haliburton Highlands OPP are searching for a man after in connection with the assault of a police officer on Tuesday afternoon.
Police say around 4:35 p.m. an officer was conducting a traffic stop on South Lake Road, just east of Minden in Minden Hills Township when he attempted to arrest a suspect on an unrelated and outstanding criminal matter.
However, the suspect — 27-year-old Creighton Griffin — resisted the arrest, police said.
“A brief confrontation ensued in which the investigating officer was subsequently assaulted,” police stated.
Griffin allegedly fled on foot which prompted an extensive search by the OPP’s Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit.
He is described as approximately 5-foot-7 and 150 pounds.
“Attempts to locate him that evening were unsuccessful and the investigation into his whereabouts has been ongoing since that time,” police said.
