Paws For Hope Animal Foundation and The Portland Hotel Society is teaming up Sunday afternoon to open a pop-up clinic for low-income pet owners, complete with volunteer veterinarians and technicians providing free care.
Paws For Hope spokesperson Kathy Powelson says that includes physical exams, vaccinations, flea and deworming treatments.
She adds they always ensure any pets in need major surgeries are taken care of even after the clinic closes.

“To ensure that the pets that we see there receive any additional veterinary care that’s required that we may not be able to do in this one-day pop-up clinic,” she says. “That’s where our resources are really most at use.”
“The follow up care for clinics can be something as minor as a spay or neuter, to major dental surgeries or even orthopaedic surgery.”
That care can cost as much as $10,000, which is usually covered by donations.
“It helps to keep them out of the shelter in the rescue system, and that’s an important component of what we do,” she adds.
“We believe the bond between people and their pets is something that’s worth honouring, and we hear wonderful stories of the positive impact that animals have in people’s lives.”
