Miles Naslund, 49, was reported missing in Sept. 2011 after he did not come home from work.
More recently, RCMP said they came upon new evidence and on Sept. 1, police executed a search warrant on the family farm — 20 kilometres south of Holden, Alta. — and a dive team from B.C. was brought in.
Human remains found during the search were later confirmed to be those of Miles Naslund.
Police didn’t say exactly where the remains were found, but the new owner of the property told Global News there is a dugout across from the house.
Naslund’s wife, Helen Naslund, 53, and his son, Neil Naslund, 25, were both charged with first-degree murder and causing indignity to human remains.

Another son, Wes, has been charged with one count of accessory after the fact to murder.
Helen and Neil appeared, separately, via CCTV at the Edmonton Law Courts on Thursday morning.
Helen, who is petite with grey hair and wore glasses on top of her head, did not exhibit much expression on her face as the Crown and defence outlined their cases. Evidence presented during a bail hearing is subject to a publication ban.
At times, Neil, who is tall with orange hair and a beard, fought back tears and sniffled during the proceedings.
Both mother and son began crying at points, and Neil also appeared agitated and distraught.
Helen and Neil were granted $10,000 cash bail each. They will be under strict house arrest. The conditions of bail were not finalized, as they needed to be agreed upon by the prosecution and defence.
