U.S. President Donald Trump told his attorney general Jeff Sessions that he was an ‘idiot’ and should resign, according to a report from the New York Times.
According to the Times, Trump “berated” Sessions in a meeting in the Oval Office shortly after Robert Mueller was appointed special council.
The Times quoted several administration officials anonymously. Their reports have not been corroborated.
Trump blamed that appointment on Sessions’ decision to recuse himself from the investigation into Russia’s ties to the Trump campaign, and reportedly called Sessions an “idiot” and said choosing him as attorney general was one of Trump’s worst decisions as president.

Sessions’ recusal, announced in March following revelations that he had failed to disclose meetings with Russia’s ambassador to the U.S. during Trump’s campaign.
Sessions then told the president he would resign from his position, and drafted a letter, the Times reports, but Trump rejected it on the advice of his aides.
Sessions reportedly called the meeting the “most humiliating experience in decades of public life.”
It’s not the first time the public has heard Trump slam his top lawyer. In an interview with the New York Times in July, Trump called Sessions’ decision “very unfair.”
“Sessions should have never recused himself,” Trump told the paper, “and if he was going to recuse himself he should have told me before he took the job and I would have picked somebody else.”
