RCMP in Red Deer are looking for a male suspect after a 23-year-old man was taken to hospital Tuesday afternoon following an attack in the city’s southeast.
Police said the victim suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his back and a number of cuts from a machete.
At around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, police said the man was surprised by another man, who broke into his garage in the Anders neighbourhood. The suspect was carrying a short-barrel small-calibre firearm and a machete, RCMP said in a media release Wednesday morning.

The suspect is described as a man in his early 20s, who stands 5’8″ to 5’10” tall. Police said he has a sunken face and a thin build, between 140 and 160 pounds. He has black hair that fell above his shoulders and was wearing a black hat, blue turtleneck compression shirt under a black zip-up hoodie, baggy faded blue jeans and skate shoes.
Officers are investigating to determine if the break-in and shooting incident is related to another shooting that happened on Monday afternoon. One person suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being shot with a small-calibre weapon in a downtown Red Deer alley. Police said it’s not clear if the victim was shot with a BB gun or a rifle. RCMP did not release any details about the victim in that case.
