Layne Jackson is officially Regina’s new fire chief.
Jackson has been acting chief for the last six months. He’s also a 20-year veteran of fire services and was deputy chief for eight years.
“I did my best in owning it while I was acting, but it’s just a different level now that it’s a permanent assignment,” he said.
An executive search firm narrowed the list to 16 qualified candidates from across the country, plus two internal ones.
“Chief Jackson has a working knowledge of the department,” city manager Chris Holden said.
“He has the respect of the firefighters, he has the respect of the association, the union that represents firefighters, and he has the respect of other agencies in the community,” Holden said.
“I think that’s what really set Chief Jackson apart. He has a reputation, and he has experience that will set him up to be successful in the position.”
