The city is adjusting collection days for over half of Winnipeggers due to a new seven year contract being signed. The city’s website said Winnipeg will be split into two different collection areas with a different contractor in each area.

These changes are being done in an effort to make garbage and recycling collection more efficient, according to the city.

“In our existing collection system, we’ll have anywhere from 39,000 to 44,000 homes a day,” explained Daryl Doubleday, Manager of Solid Waste with the City of Winnipeg. “The new system is completely balanced at an even 41,000 a day, Monday to Friday. Our goal is to get equipment off the street by 6 p.m. for residents’ safety.”

If your collection day is changing, you’ll receive a notice in the mail during the week of Sept. 18.

You can find out if your schedule is changing by visiting the city’s website.
