Police said the “quick actions” of a driver and bystanders in West Kelowna stopped a vehicle fire from becoming something much worse on Thursday.
The incident happened on Stevens Road near Ross Road at around 3:30 Thursday afternoon.
Police said a driver smelled smoke when his vehicle was stopped on the side of the road.
“The quick actions of the vehicle’s driver and passersby, with the use of multiple fire extinguishers, prevented the vehicle fire from getting out of control and spreading to the tinder dry grass along the shoulder of Stevens Road and or commercial businesses nearby,” said Cpl. Tania Carroll in a media release.
A video of the incident shows the two spraying down the vehicle until the West Kelowna Fire Department responded to put out the blaze.
The driver inhaled smoke while fighting the blaze but was otherwise uninjured.
