London’s labour community came together Monday in Thames Park for its annual Labour Day picnic.

“Organized labour has played a big part in gaining benefits for working people whether they’re unionized or not and we think it’s important to celebrate that at least once a year,” Steve Holmes a member of the executive board of the London and District Labour Council, told AM980.

The event welcomes everyone from activists to local politicians to members of the public for food, fun and games.

“I know they’ve talked about for example the $15 minimum wage that we’ve been pushing for for a long time, and that’s again not just for organized labour people but for all workers, and that’s kind of what we do is try to make sure that all workers are getting treated fairly,” Holmes said.
