A grass fire broke out near The Lakes subdivision in Lake Country north of Kelowna Wednesday night at 9 p.m., prompting a response from several community fire halls.
It was burning in a gully between Cliffstone Drive and Highway 97 below the neighbourhood.
Lake Country Fire Chief Steve Windsor said the flames spread to an area of about 35 metres X 10 metres before they the fire was doused.
Windsor said six trucks and a crew from the B.C. Wildfire Service attended to the blaze.
The area next to the homes is remote and undeveloped with a trail running through it, leading Windsor to believe the blaze is human caused.
Crews will return in the morning to assess for hot spots and continue their investigation.
