Grass fire gives Lake Country neighbourhood a scare

Potentially dangerous brush fire burning close to homes in Lake Country quickly extinguished – Aug 31, 2017

A grass fire broke out near The Lakes subdivision in Lake Country north of Kelowna Wednesday night at 9 p.m., prompting a response from several community fire halls.

It was burning in a gully between Cliffstone Drive and Highway 97 below the neighbourhood.

Lake Country Fire Chief Steve Windsor said the flames spread to an area of about 35 metres X 10 metres before they the fire was doused.

Windsor said six trucks and a crew from the B.C. Wildfire Service attended to the blaze.

The area next to the homes is remote and undeveloped with a trail running through it, leading Windsor to believe the blaze is human caused.

Crews will return in the morning to assess for hot spots and continue their investigation.
