Putting live cameras and microphones on a child is always a gamble. This proved true for British network ITV’s noon newscast Wednesday when a serious interview about milk allergies was upstaged by a lively and curious toddler.
Mom Lucy Wronka appeared on the broadcast with her two children, George and Iris, when Iris suddenly got ants in her pants.
As anchor Alistair Stewart valiantly attempted to continue with the interview, Iris decided to use the set as her own personal playground, ambling about the studio and climbing on top of Stewart’s desk.
In the meantime, her brother George politely answered questions regarding his milk allergy while their mother tried to keep a straight face discussing the new guidelines introduced by Evelina London Children’s Hospital on testing babies earlier for milk allergies.
Viewers were delighted by the toddler takeover.
According to Health Canada, symptoms of an allergic reaction to milk include hives, rash, swelling around the mouth and face, trouble breathing, intestinal distress and a loss of consciousness.
They report that studies say up to four per cent of infants are allergic to milk, but for many, this allergy will disappear within three years.
