Victim dead following daytime shooting in East Vancouver

Vancouver has recorded its eighth homicide of the year.

Just after 5 p.m. on Tuesday police were called to East 7th Avenue and St. Catherines Street in East Vancouver. They found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds.

She was rushed to hospital, but died of her injuries a short time later. She has now been identified as 33-year-old Janice Nicole Bryant, a resident of Vancouver.

A friend who showed up at the scene of the shooting on Wednesday told Global News Bryant was “an awesome mother” and they believe she was pregnant when she was shot. “We’re pretty devastated,” said the friend, who did not want to give her name.

Police believe the incident is targeted, but no arrests have been made and the suspect remains at large.

“The woman who was shot in yesterday’s targeted shooting in east Vancouver has died,” said Const. Jason Doucette with the Vancouver Police Department. “This is Vancouver’s eighth homicide of 2017.”

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact police.
