Flames doused on roof of YLW

A small fire was put out on the roof of the Kelowna International Airport terminal building on Wednesday night.

Flames were reported at around 9:40 p.m. The Kelowna Fire Department responded, as did YLW Operations following reports from staff that there was smoke inside the terminal and flames visible on the roof.

Construction workers who were on site doused the flames with an extinguisher. The fire department investigated the area and confirmed damage was minimal and had not spread.

Roofers had been at work in the vicinity of the blaze earlier in the day.

Three engines, two ladder trucks, one rescue truck and a command vehicle from the Kelowna Fire Department were at the scene.

Flight operations at YLW terminal were not affected by the blaze.

Construction on an expansion at the airport has been underway for months.
