A serious two-car crash closed Highway 6 for nearly four hours near Lumby Wednesday afternoon.
RCMP say just before 1 p.m. a man in his 80s crossed the centreline while driving near a corner and hit an oncoming vehicle.
Fire crews say the woman inside, who is in her early 70s, needed to be rescued with the Jaws of Life. She sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital.
The man suffered non-life threatening injuries.
An RCMP reconstruction team is on-site trying to figure out the cause of the crash.
The highway isn’t expected to reopen until 5 p.m. but a detour is in place via Creighton Valley Road.
The RCMP has now taken over the investigation.
