UPDATE: Highway 1 is now open in both directions following the crash.
A multi-vehicle accident on Highway 1 just east of 176 Street caused traffic gridlock heading toward the Port Mann Bridge during the Friday afternoon rush hour commute.
There were roughly five ambulances on scene at around 5 p.m., with traffic backed up past 248 Street in Langley.

Drivers were being diverted off the highway at 200 Street.

Surrey RCMP says one of their officers was injured in the crash and taken to hospital with a head injury and lacerated hand. He is expected to make a full recovery.
