Sunday marks the last day of winter and for many on B.C’s south coast, spring can’t come soon enough.
Mother Nature gave Metro Vancouver one last taste of winter weather on Sunday morning with snowfall hitting parts of the region.
Wet snow and hail fell on Surrey, the Tri-Cities and other parts of the region. Meanwhile, the sun shone over English Bay and other areas of Vancouver.
The weather patterns that popped up Sunday are expected to peter out and there is sun in the forecast later in the day Sunday and into Monday.
With spring set to begin, cities are tallying up costs related to the winter weather. Surrey has spent a little more than two-thirds of its $3.6-million annual snow removal budget since Jan. 1. Last year, less than a third of the budget was spent in the same time period.
Surrey is expected to exceed its annual $1.2-million pothole budget. Crews have already fixed 8,000 potholes this year. Normally, they repair 9,000 in a year.
