Stanislaw Maguder was convicted in July 2016 for the incident, which happened March 18, 2015.

Tyla Chipaway, 16, had been lying in the middle of 16 Avenue when she was struck and killed at about 3:30 a.m.

Maguder testified in his own defence at a week-long trial in April. He admitted he kept driving and did not stop to help Chipaway, but his lawyer argued there was no intent to avoid civil or criminal liability.

Court heard Maguder continued driving to a car wash in Bowness after Chipaway was hit and eventually went to see the co-owner of the cab.

Maguder told the other cab driver he bumped something on 16 Avenue.
