Global News officially launches new bureau in Durham region

As a part of Global News’ commitment to local news, a new bureau has officially launched in Durham region.

“We’re at what we believe is a new beginning not just for Durham region and Global News, but for the idea of what local television can be,” Troy Reeb, Senior Vice President of News, Radio and Station Operations with Corus Entertainment, told dignitaries at a reception.

The new bureau is located at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology’s downtown Oshawa, Ont., campus. It will service the operations of the newly rebranded Global News Durham newscast as well as provide content to Global News in Toronto and across the country.

Many community stakeholders attended the reception, including Oshawa Mayor John Henry and UOIT President Dr. Tim McTiernan.

“We very much thank Global for bringing its innovation to us and to helping us tell our innovative story to the world,” John MacMillan, UOIT’s director of communications and marketing, said.

Global News Durham is anchored by journalist Lindsay Dunn. Local newscasts air weekday evenings at 5, 7 and 11 p.m.
