KELOWNA — The Abbotsford Police Department has concluded its investigation regarding the Kelowna RCMP detachment and says it has found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing.
The investigation was launched in early September around the time of the sudden and unexpected resignation of Superintendent Nick Romanchuk.
At the time, Abbotsford Police said they were investigating an individual at the detachment.
In a terse release issued early Wednesday, Abbotsford Police stated the investigation involved a single complaint connected to an individual at the Kelowna RCMP detachment and they did not find any evidence a criminal offence was committed.
Abbotsford Police do not name the individual.
Shortly after the Abbotsford Police investigation was announced, Global Okanagan learned that there were actually two investigations underway involving the Kelowna detachment.
The second regards Inspector John Ibbotson, one of former Superintendent Romanchuk’s right-hand men.
Global Okanagan learned the investigation began last April when a number of Kelowna RCMP members came forward with concerns about the workplace.
Documents obtained by Global Okanagan show a Code of Conduct investigation was underway shortly thereafter and the primary investigator was an RCMP inspector in Langley.
Calls to the Langley inspector in charge of the investigation were bounced to the RCMP’s Southeast District headquarters in Kelowna. Our calls to there were not returned.
