Crews had to extricate the man from his vehicle, which was complicated by the fact that a metal fence pole had impaled the victim through his upper arm.

It was determined at the scene the best course of action would be to leave two feet of the pole in the man’s arm and remove it at the hospital.

The man was taken to the Foothills Hospital in serious but stable condition.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
