Vincent Massey Collegiate wins 7th G!EE high school showdown

The seventh annual G!ee high school showdown took place Sunday with 14 Montreal-area high schools taking part in the competition.

This year’s participating high schools were:

  • Bialik High School
  • Centennial Academy
  • Miss Edgar’s and Miss Cramp’s School
  • Herzliah High School
  • John Rennie High School
  • Kuper Academy
  • Laurier Macdonald High School
  • Royal Vale School
  • Royal West Academy
  • Selwyn House
  • St. Thomas High School
  • The Study
  • Trafalgar School for Girls
  • Vincent Massey Collegiate

Vincent Massey finished in the top spot with second place going to Trafalgar and John Rennie taking third place.

“We’re feeling really shocked,” said Alessia Pietraroia, a student at Vincent Massey Collegiate.

“It’s still surreal to us.”

In addition to dancing and singing, each team raised money to benefit the Just For Kids Foundation.

The foundation helps raise funds to purchase equipment for the Montreal Children’s Hospital.

“This year, we raised the most amount of money that we’ve ever raised before,” said Rochelle Lerner, Just For Kids foundation president.

Lerner said combined efforts from all the students raised $126,000.

“The energy that they bring and the devotion and the commitment is just amazing,” she said.
