Footage obtained by our Global 1 news helicopter portrayed what appeared to be a Jeep in the grass median of the major highway, with the transport truck parked nearby.

The driver of the SUV, who was the only person in the vehicle, suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to an Edmonton hospital. The driver of the transport truck was not injured.

The eastbound lanes of Highway 16 surrounding the crash were closed for several hours due to the investigation.
