Nicholas Butcher to stand trial next spring

Trial dates have been set for 34-year-old Nicholas Butcher, accused of killing a popular Halifax yoga teacher.

Butcher is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Kristin Johnston. Police have said Butcher and Johnston were in a relationship at the time of her death.

Johnston’s body was found inside her home in Purcells Cove, N.S., in March 2016. Although her death was deemed a homicide by the province’s Medical Examiner. Police have never said how the 32-year-old was killed.

Four weeks have been set aside for Butcher’s trial, set to begin April 24, 2017.
