Pedestrian critically injured in early-morning Alberta Avenue crash

A man in his 20s was taken to hospital in critical condition after he was struck by a vehicle while walking in the Alberta Avenue neighbourhood early Thursday morning.

Edmonton police were called to the area of 95 Street and 113 Avenue at around 7:15 a.m.

Officers believe the man was walking in the middle of the road when he was struck by a northbound vehicle.

“It doesn’t appear that alcohol is involved with the driver, speed doesn’t appear to be a factor,” Const. Darren Sunley with the EPS Major Collision Investigation Unit, said.

“At the time, the lighting conditions – it was dark… It appears that it might have been a factor with regards to the event here,” he continued. “The pedestrian was wearing really dark clothing in the middle of the roadway.”

The area was shut down to traffic Thursday morning.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
