Tunisian officials are heading to the Montreal International Tourism and Travel Show in a bid to increase tourism from Montreal.
The expo aims to promote tourism among Canadians with 400 exhibitors from across the globe.
Last year, Tunisair introduced a direct flight service from Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport connecting Montreal to Tunis in just over eight hours.
Issam Khereddin, director for the Office National du Tourisme Tunisien, stopped by the Global News Morning studios to explain why travellers should consider Tunisia as their next destination.
“It’s very important for people to come encounter people from Tunisia, from different parts of the world,” he said.
Khereddin explained a lot of measures have been taken by the government in response to recent concerns of safety or threats of terrorism.
“There’s a saying, ‘if we stop travelling, we’re going to stop living,'” he said.
“Tunisia is a beautiful country. It has more than 3,000 years of history, some of the most important and the most beautiful archaeological sites.”
The Montreal International Tourism and Travel Show is being held from Oct. 21 to 23 at Place Bonaventure.
