Northwest Calgary mosque latest target of vandalism

WATCH ABOVE: For the second time in two weeks, a Calgary mosque has been vandalized. This time, culprits damaged the Ranchlands mosque in the northwest. Carolyn Kury de Castillo has more – Oct 17, 2016

Members of the Ranchlands Mosque told Global News they arrived for prayer Saturday morning only to find their facility had been vandalized.

The glass on the front door was smashed and a sign showing the mosque is still open during construction was thrown into the parking lot.

The motive behind the destruction was unknown, however Calgary police have confirmed they are investigating.

The Muslim Council of Calgary (MCC) and the Islamic Association of Northwest Calgary (IANWC), which runs Ranchlands Mosque, strongly condemn this and other similar acts.

This latest act of vandalism comes on the heels of another alleged act of hate in Queensland Oct. 7.

Less than two weeks ago, 40 vulgar anti-Muslim posters were discovered around the University of Calgary.
