Downtown stabbing is Montreal’s 15th homicide of the year

A 26-year-old man is dead after a stabbing in downtown Montreal early Sunday morning.

The victim showed up in a downtown-area hospital with a stab wound to the upper body, shortly before 3 a.m., Const. Daniel Lacoursière with Montreal police said.

Doctors at the hospital then notified police.

Police have spoken with the people who accompanied the victim to hospital.

“According to what they tell us, it seems the aggression happened in downtown Montreal near Ontario and Berri,” Lacoursière said.

The major crimes unit is on site investigating. There are no suspects so far.

Berri Street was closed between Sherbrooke Boulevard and Ontario Street. Ontario Street is closed between Berri Street and Saint Denis.

This is 15th homicide in 2016. By this time last year, there had been 22 homicides.
