Two elderly women were killed in a head-on collision Saturday afternoon near Truro, Nova Scotia.
The women were travelling in a car on Highway 236 in Old Barns, Nova Scotia when the car collided with an oncoming pick-up truck around 2:30 p.m., according to a statement from the RCMP.
RCMP say both women were from the Upper Kennetcook area and were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car was 83 and her passenger was 79.
The Chevrolet pick-up was driven by a male who sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene, according to the press release from the Mounties.
Highway 236 was closed between Pleasant Valley Road and Robie Street until late Saturday night while police investigated the cause of the accident.
