Surveillance footage from a Venice Beach, Calif., shop shows the moment a man punches a woman in the face, knocking her to the ground.
The events leading up to the Sunday evening incident were also caught on camera, as the man and woman stood next to each other in the checkout of the small grocery store.
The unidentified man and woman can be seen exchanging words as a second woman tries to get between them.

Video footage shows the man exit the store first, followed by the woman. He turns around and lands a punch on her face and she collapses.
A group of bystanders appear to try to stop the man – one person even jumps on his back – but were unable to stop him.
According to CBS-LA, Los Angeles police said their preliminary investigation revealed that the woman intervened when she saw the man speaking with a homeless person earlier in the day. Global News could not independently verify that information.
Police confirmed to Global News that detectives have identified the suspect but that he is still outstanding. They would not comment further.
