Two weeks ago, Beaconsfield residents noticed that a small book house appeared just in front of the swings in Beacon Hill Park, along Hardwood Gate Road.
The concept is for community members to take advantage of the mini-library by borrowing a book to read in the park.
Residents are encouraged to leave a book behind if they take one.
The book house is the brainchild of resident Carole Theriault, who personally donated 15 books to the mini-library.
She got the idea after visiting the Montreal Plateau and seeing a mini-library there.
Theriault said she hopes the city will be inspired to open other book houses like it.
It’s the first installation of its kind in the city.
The box has space for about 40 volumes.
The project is a joint effort between the Beaconsfield Library and the Beacon Hill Community Association.
