Residents in the Les Sherman Park area were shocked after finding hateful graffiti spray painted along the walking path.
People were concerned to find a swastika painted on the park’s sidewalk near the baseball diamonds on Sunday.
“How does that make you feel? Super uncomfortable, you don’t see that, especially in Regina. There’s a lot of tags around here especially in this neighbourhood but you kind of have to think, what year am I in?” concerned resident Victoria Sutherland said.
Regina police said the incident could result in mischief and damage to public property charges.
On Monday the City of Regina released the following statement about the graffiti.
The City received a number of calls regarding the graffiti in Les Sherman Park. The removal of the graffiti happened early Monday morning. This is consistent with the City’s target to remove graffiti within 24 hours if it is of a hateful, racist of obscene nature. Graffiti, unfortunately, is a regular occurrence. The City typically receives and removes up to 500+ resident reported instances of Graffiti annually, in addition to regular removal through our graffiti removal program.
